“Just close your eyes ........ listen to the smoky smooth sounds of Forget-Me-Not and imagine yourself in the roaring twenties ...... simply fabulous !! This gorgeous CD would make a great addition to your music library ....... or equally make a super gift for that Art Deco fan!!!”  The Art Deco Trust, Napier, New Zeland.

It all began with Cole Porter’s song ‘Love For Sale.’ I was fascinated to learn that in the 30s it was banned for broadcast by the BBC as it was considered scandalous, bad taste and too raw! The song ruffled the feathers of ‘auntie’ by portraying a prostitute singing poignantly about her trade, but despite the ban it became a sensational hit! My collector’s pulse was ignited, setting me on a journey to seek out and collect rarely performed banned and risqué songs from the 20s and 30s and create a one woman show from this material. With the songs come their stories, reflecting the social bewilderment that women might enjoy wearing trousers and having sex, and the belief that gay men needed psychotherapy to ‘correct’ their sexual orientation. This CD is also a celebration of the gallant female performers such as Mae West, Marlene Dietrich and Gertrude Lawrence who proudly wore the trousers both physically and metaphorically, rebuffing society’s expectations.  Censorship may have tried to silence, but often stimulated support and intrigue.

To quote Mae West “Censorship, I made a fortune out of it!”
